When you reach 30% completion, the Café will be expanded. The final requirement in each case for expansion is linked to Island expansion. You do this by bringing new characters to the Island and by buying food from Madelynn and Luke. The first step is to encourage the Café and Diner to expand. You need to be able to persuade the restaurant owners to share their Recipes with you if you wish to be able to make your own Cooked Dishes. When Café and Diner are open for business, you will be able to purchase Cooked Dishes at either, but these must be consumed on the spot. The owner of the Café is a woman named Madelynn. The two establishments are located side by side to the north of the central area with the Well. When you have brought 15 Subsidiary Characters to the Island, a Diner will open. Once you are able to visit East Town, you need to bring a total of 10 Subsidiary Characters to the Island and complete the bridge to the Meadow in order to bring the Café to the Island. In the second week of Spring, Gannon, a carpenter, will arrive on the Island, and will pulverize the huge boulder that blocked the path to East Town. The Kitchen will come with two Basic Recipes for Cooked Rice and Bread, neither of which can be made in the first year of the game to the ordinary player as Rice and Wheat are advanced Grain Crops that must be unlocked and then require 2 seasons each to grow and mature. When you have purchased this Food Storage Item, you will find a Kitchen for sale at Chen’s Market. You then must buy a Refrigerator from Chen at Chen’s Market. In order to be able to cook in Island of Happiness, you first need to expand your House from the initial small Farmhouse to a Medium House. This Guide provides the method by which each Recipe is acquired, the basic ingredients and its Energy Value in terms of Stamina Recovery and Fullness.

There is no way to discover a Recipe through trial and error or by substituting ingredients in an existing Recipe in your Cookbook. Each Recipe is obtained in a specific manner in IoH. Nevertheless, it is helpful to know the item that is linked to each Cooked Dish and the individual who will give you the Recipe in each instance. Although this reference Guide contains all recipes, you will not be able to cook any dish until YOU obtain the Recipe yourself, unfortunately. This Guide is nothing more than a guide to Cooking and all Recipes in a completed Cookbook. For all aspects of gameplay, please refer to my Island of Happiness General Guide/Walkthrough at: This is a quick reference guide for players of Island of Happiness who would like to have access to every Recipe that can be obtained in the course of the game. After all, Sunny Island is a part of the landscape in Sunshine Islands as well, albeit one that exists on the bottom of the sea until you can raise it again! There are additional Recipes in Sunshine Islands, however, as you will have the ability to make Gold Lumber, Wonderfuls and a variety of ‘Books’ in your own Kitchen. Note on 22 February 2010: Sunshine Islands now has been released and players of both games will find that the majority of Recipes and Cooked Dishes are the same in both. You will find links to all my IGN guides on my own Harvest Moon website at:
